To make this event as accessible and supportive as possible, we are thrilled to announce a brand-new Couch to 5km Training Program!
This program is completely free and specifically designed to take you from the couch to crossing the finish line at Lakeside Park with total confidence.
🦅 Guided by Our Own Community Leaders
You won't be doing this alone. The training program is proudly developed and led by two incredible Nelson Indigenous runners alongside their local run clubs.
They are opening up their run club communities to welcome you, wrap you in support, and share their passion for running as a tool for physical, mental, and cultural healing.Â
The Medicine:Â This isn't about pressure, speed, or competition. It is about steady, gentle progression, building your lung capacity, and finding joy in movement alongside a supportive community.
What You Get:Â Weekly structured group runs, a step-by-step training schedule you can follow at home, peer mentorship, and an immediate community of friends to keep you motivated.
Who It Is For:Â Absolutely everyone! This is the perfect training ground for local youth cohorts, families, beginners, and anyone who wants to transition into an active lifestyle in a safe, culturally grounded environment.
By breaking down the barriers to training, our local run clubs are ensuring that every participant—regardless of fitness level—can experience the transformative power of Movement is Medicine.
